Performance Project Artist in Residence
Project Residency Artist Michelle Grant-Murray proposes to create site-specific dance works that emphasizes African Diasporic women in the historical context of South Florida. Embracing the geographic areas of Cutler Bay, Lemon City, Coconut Grove, Homestead, Perrine, West Perrine, Florida City the surrounding communities, she will create workshops, performances, and collaborations with Miami Dade College Kendall Campus Dance and Music Program, Florida International University African & African Diaspora Studies Program, Miami Dade College Kendall Campus Dance Program, Barry invited Caribbean Artists.
Murray, a seasoned performer, choreographer, and educator, and artistic director, is Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Dance at Miami Dade College/Kendall Campus, has a Bachelor Degree in Dance Education from Jacksonville University, a Master of Arts degree in Cultural Studies and Pedagogy from Florida International University, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Choreography from Jacksonville University. Dance has continually fueled her educational goals and provided her with extensive experiences that go beyond the ordinary including study at the New World School of the Arts, Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Clark Center and Jacob’s Pillow. She has performed and presented work in Europe, Asia, South America, the United States and the Caribbean.
