Call to Artists: ArtSoBay Exhibit
We are pleased to announce that Rene Morales, Associate Curator for the Miami Art Museum (MAM), will serve as this year's esteemed guest juror. At MAM, Morales has organized several exhibitions, such as Space as Medium, Objects of Value, and Miami in Transition, as well as installed several traveling exhibitions: Ana Mendieta:Earth Body, Wifredo Lam in N. Am., & Andy Warhol: Moving Pictures.
Artists interested in participating in the 2011 ArtSoBay Exhibition must complete a formal application. Please complete the entry form and return it with a $25 entry fee (made payable to the Deering Estate Foundation, Inc.) by JANURAY 16, 2011 (postmarked Jan. 13, 2011):

SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES
January 16, 2011: Application and fee due to the Estate.
January 21, 2011: Notification of Acceptance.
January 29, 2011: Deadline for Delivery of Exhibit Work(s).
January 30-February 4, 2011: Installation of Work(s).
February 4, 2011: Exhibit Opening
March 11-16, 2011: Pick up of artwork by Artists
ArtSoBay Exhibit Opening:
February 4th, 2011, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm; FREE & open to the public.
This is an OPEN call to artists. The idea of an open call is to allow each of the submitting artists the opportunity to show their current work without the restrictions of a theme or concept.
Applications that include all forms of media are accepted. Please submit only current work - completed in the last two years. All works submitted must be original work of the applicant. No reproductions or copies will be accepted.
NOTE: The Deering Estate at Cutler is a public park, and it is an Estate policy that under no circumstances, shall artwork include any inappropriate or offensive nudity, political, religious, or racial comments.
SIZE LIMITATIONS AND FRAMING
2-D work should be no larger that 48” x 48” including frame. 2-D work must be framed, ready to hang with wire in place. Work not properly framed will be disqualified. 3-D work should not exceed 30 lbs. for interior installation. Outdoor installation is available. Please check with Exhibits & Collections staff in advance of submission.
SHIPPING AND HANDLING
All work selected must be delivered by January 29th. The Estate will not be responsible for artwork left past the pick up dates.
Work will be selected by Rene Morales, Associate Curator for the Miami Art Museum (MAM) and Deering Estate at Cutler Exhibits and Collections Advisory Committee. All work must be original. All work will be selected based on quality, elements of design and site appropriateness. Photographers must not manipulate or disturb the Estate’s natural and historic environment. Both traditional & contemporary art forms are encouraged, as well artists working in a variety of media. The Estate will strive for diversity in style, scale, media, and artists. Participants shall, under no circumstances, include any inappropriate or offensive nudity, political, religious, or racial comments as part of any work submitted. The Estate, through its Director, shall have the right to remove any & all work that they deem inappropriate or offensive. Any work(s) to be displayed at the Estate must be approved & accepted by the Deering Estate at Cutler.
