DOOR TO THE ARTS

FREE Breakfast and Demonstration: December 1, 2012

The Deering Estate at Cutler partnering with Door To The Arts, Inc. offers a variety of enriching art, dance and music classes in a relaxing atmosphere and historic setting as an extension of our arts programming for the community
. Classes include Visual Arts, Survey of Music, Drama / Music Theater, Ballet, Creative Movement / Musical Fitness.

The DTTA Creative Movement / Musical Fitness Program is a pre-school introductory music and creative movement class designed to teach young children the bases of music tones and rhythm patterns using different props and rhythm instruments. The class also incorporates simple movements and exercises to help students become familiar with how their bodies move.

The DTTA Visual Arts Program is designed to give students a hands-on experience in different forms of visual arts including painting and sculpturing. Each session will focus on a particular medium of art and include some historical background as well as examine the works of recognized artists who worked in that medium. The students will then use this knowledge to work on their own artistic interpretations using models and surrounding landscapes. The opportunity to visit local museums as well as art festivals will further enhance the student's experience.

The DTTA Survey of Dance Program is designed to give students an appreciation for the different forms of dance through basic dance steps and dance variations. This effort is reinforced by learning about the evolution of each form of dance and pointing out each form’s unique characteristics. The experience is complimented with the use of corresponding musical scores and the opportunity to attend professional dance performances throughout the year.

The DTTA Survey of Music Program is designed to give students an appreciation for the different forms of music through listening and playing different tunes. This experience includes learning about the evolution of music and distinguishing the unique characteristics of each form of music. The opportunity to visit local music festivals and professional musical performances will further enhance the student's musical journey.

The DTTA Drama/Musical Theater Program is designed to give students an opportunity to experience different forms of theater through acting, singing, and dancing. Each session includes reviewing the techniques for the specific theater form, developing the student's own interpretative skills, as well as creating props, costumes, and backdrops. This experience is enhanced by the opportunity to attend local theater performances.

The DTTA Ballet Program is designed to give students an appreciation of ballet by learning basic steps and ballet variations. This effort is reinforced by reading classical ballet stories, complimented by the use of classical ballet musical scores, as well as having the opportunity to attend professional ballet performances throughout the year.
