Living Artist Concert Series

The Living Artist Concert Series (LACS) combines ensemble performances with lectures, visual art exhibits, environmental awareness and interpretive programs. It acquaints the public with the best of South Florida's artistic spirit through collaborations with faculty from the University of Miami and Florida International University, principal players of regional, national, and international professional orchestras, top youth performers and national/international guest composers. Concerts are held in the historic Stone House Ballroom - which provides intimate seating for 125 guests, possesses superb natural acoustics for chamber music and offers a perfect environment for the exhibition of visual art.

The Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble is comprised of founding members: Jose R. Lopez, piano (Coordinator of Keyboard Studies, Florida International University), Ross Harbaugh, cello (University of Miami), and Laura Wilcox, viola (Greater Miami Youth Symphony artistic staff). This ensemble came together out of a mutual respect for nature and the beautiful Deering Estate with a love to perform chamber music, work with living composers, and interact with history, nature and other art forms.

Thanks to The Deering Estate Foundation, Inc. and Miami-Dade Parks, the ensemble has been able to fulfill a unique partnership with The Deering Estate at Cutler. From different parts of the Americas and sharing in vast musical experiences worldwide, The Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble brings its audiences diverse listening experiences. The ensemble is in their seventh season (2013-2014) and through a commitment to teaching, the ensemble looks forward to presenting public master-classes and lectures for audiences of all ages.
