Directions & Parking
Conveniently located in Miami-Dade County, the Deering Estate is just east of Old Cutler Road and SW 168 Street in Palmetto Bay, accessible via the Florida Turnpike, US-1, and Old Cutler Road. Arrival by watercraft is prohibited.
Driving Directions:
15 miles From Downtown Miami – Take I-95 South to South Dixie Highway (US1) ; continue south (approximately 13 miles) to SW 168th Street. Turn left at SW 168 street and travel east. Cross Old Cutler Road, and the Visitor’s Center parking lot is about ½ block on the right.
From the Southbound Turnpike (coming from Miami International Airport, Broward County) – Take turnpike south, exit at SW 152nd Street East (Coral Reef Drive). Continue east to Old Cutler Road (about 4.5 miles). Turn right on Old Cutler Road and travel south (about 1 mile) to SW 168th Street. Turn left at SW 168 street, and the Visitor Center parking lot is about ½ block on the right.
From the Northbound Turnpike (coming from Florida Keys, Florida City, Homestead) – Take Turnpike north, exit right on SW 216th Street, take 216 street east to Old Cutler Road, at Old Cutler Road make a left. Take Old Cutler Road northbound (approximately 4.4 miles) to SW 168th Street. At SW 168 Street, make a right, and the Visitor Center parking lot is about ½ block on the right.

Old Cutler Bike Path is a fully paved bike path, a full 11 miles from Coco Plum Circle, bikers can enjoy the scenery of parks including Matheson Hammock and the Deering Estate.
Picnics
Picnics & refreshments are permitted in the outdoor areas of the Deering Estate. Picnic tables are available on a first come first serve basis located in the Palm Grove overlooking Biscayne Bay. Barbecuing, grilling, or cooking on-site is not permitted.
Historic House Museum & App-Based Audio Tours
The Historic House Museum is open during daily general admission for self guided tours from 10 AM – 5 PM (gate closes at 4 PM). Although we do our best to keep our museums open during our General Admission hours, the Historic House Museum or portions of the museum may be closed at certain times & during events without notice.
An app-based audio tour is available via Cloudguide mobile app for only $2 USD. Download CloudGuide from the App Store or Google Play today! Purchase your audio tour through the app, and download the audio tour directly to your device. It is recommended that listeners download the audio tour (rather than stream) prior to entering the Historic House Museum since WiFi, cellular, & carrier service is limited indoors.

Nature Preserve Tours
Nature Preserve Tours are held daily at 12:30 PM, October – May. The Garden Brook Trail, Mangrove Boardwalk and Main Grounds are open daily from 10 AM – 5 PM for self-guided tours. Guests are encouraged to document their flora & fauna findings on the iNaturalist app. (Available on Google Play and App Store).
People's Dock & Deering Point
Deering Point (located at 17350 Old Cutler Road) and The People’s Dock are open daily from sunrise to sunset.
Chinese Bridge
The Chinese Bridge is located off of SW 72nd Avenue, approximately 1/2 mile north of the Main Gate Ticket Booth or approximately .6 mile north of the Visitor Center & parking lot. The Chinese Bridge is accessible to pedestrians and bicyclists from sunrise to sunset.
The Chinese Bridge was constructed in 1916. Cutler Creek runs underneath the bridge, the high water mark is reached in the rainy season, while the creek is virtually dry when the rain stops.
Film, Photography, & Portrait Photography Sessions
Film & Photography & Portrait Photography sessions are permitted with a permit and fee. Permits are required for photography on all Deering Estate grounds including the Visitor Center and surrounding areas. Portrait photography is not allowed inside any of the Historic Museum Homes or buildings, and must not block stairways, paths, restrooms entrances or exits from use by the public.
Groups of 4 or more people, including all cast, crew, personnel, and subjects being photographed and/or filmed, will require an additional permit from the Office of Film and Entertainment. More info on Film & Photography rules can be found here.
Food, Beverage, & Souvenirs
Soda and water are available from vending machines on the back porch of the Pump House. Branded souvenirs among other items can also be purchased at the Visitor Center Ticket Office.
A variety of restaurants offering pizza, sandwiches, soup, specialty coffee and refreshments are located within a 10 minute walk.
Seaweed Season
Sargassum is a naturally occurring seaweed that floats freely on the ocean surface and is abundant in the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. You might see Sargassum during your visit to Deering Estate. Seaweed Season is from March-October, but it can be present year-round.

Important Do’s & Dont’s
We ask our patrons to join us in the stewardship of Deering Estate in order to protect the natural resources and the historic buildings.
- Smoking is prohibited (with the exception of unfiltered cigars).
- NO PETS or emotional support animals are allowed, only service animals are permitted. For more information, please refer to the U.S. Department of Justice.
- Mosquitos & bugs are very common.
- Do not feed, harass, or throw objects at animals. Please refrain from making loud noises.
- Do not pick plants, leaves, flowers or climb trees; the natural ecosystems in and around Deering Estate are sensitive, globally imperiled, and protected habitats.
- Stay on designated pathways.
- No flash photography or portrait style photos are permitted inside the historic houses. For personal or professional photography, film, or photo shoots on the grounds of Deering Estate, please refer to Film & Photography rules & obtain applicable permit(s).
The following items are prohibited (including, but not limited to): pets, balloons, balls, BBQ’s/barbecues/grills, bicycles, candles/open flame, confetti, glitter, drones, frisbees, fireworks, kites, remote control boats / cars, rollerblades / skates, scooters, skateboards, tents/canopies, in-ground umbrellas, fishing, swimming.
